Didier Deschamps On The Chelsea Shortlist
May 27, 2008Didier Deschamps has claimed he is on the shortlist of managers wanted to replace the fired Avram Grant. The former Juventus coach (and ex Chelsea player) told a Monaco radio station:
Three or four managers are on the list and I am one of them. It would be hard to refuse Chelsea.
Roberto Macini has already said he has no interest in the job, and Guus Hiddink said no earlier this week too.
Deschamps won the FA Cup as a player with Chelsea in 2000. He has been out of work since parting ways with Juventus in 2007. He went on to add:
Breaking back into management is complicated because there are not always the opportunities, but the Chelsea position is now free. I am flattered to be considered a possible candidate for the role.
We now believe the other candidates for the job to be Frank Rijkaard, Man City manager Sven Goran Eriksson and Portugal boss Luiz Felipe Scolari. We will add new posts as soon as any news breaks.
